Key terms

This page describes key terminology that applies to H2O Notebook Labs.

Notebook Lab

An instance of JupyterLab. Each individual user has their own Notebook Lab (that is, a JupyterLab environment).

Notebook

A Jupyter notebook that exists inside a Notebook Lab. Notebooks open in read-only mode, which means that viewing a notebook does not take any resources (AI units).

Notebook kernel

The computational engine responsible for executing code in a Jupyter notebook. Each notebook is associated with a specific programming language by selecting a kernel. For example, if you want to work with Python in a Jupyter notebook, you need to select a Python kernel.
